I remember I as playing a game called Fallout 3 and I was given a choice. I could disarm a bomb for a town for some coin or blow up the bomb, along with the town, for more coin. Since I made the decision to save the town last time I played this time I decided to see how the game would change if I blew up the bomb. After the explosion I revisited where the town once was. There was one lone survivor. She had no idea that I blew up the town and she was still her cheerful self just thankful that I got out in time. Now I know she only survived because she gives quests in the game, but that moment stuck with me. This lonely girl who had been physically altered due to the explosion and the radiation. I have never experienced regret in such a strong way before this moment. I wanted to return to a previous save, but could not do so. I just sat there for a while and stared at the screen looking at what my actions have caused and in that single moment I was playing more than a game. I was experiencing something different. Something that I had never experienced before. Games can be more than just a child's play thing or a thing to kill time. It can express creativity and emotion like any other great work of art.
I have wanted to talk about this for some time now, but could not find the words to get my point across. I have seen articles and news stories over the years about how school shootings and violent children are due to violent video games. No actual evidence or research to back it up, but I cannot get angry over this. They say that they are just a child's play thing, dismiss it, and say that there is nothing positive that comes out of playing games. Every generation people find something to blame for all the bad behavior of children. People would blame books, art, movies, music, and right now video games are in the hot seat. All forms of media and art go through this before being known for the value that they give to society. Games let you experience the creativity that can be drawn in from all forms of art. You are the one who pushes the story that could have been read from a page, you make the decisions that actor is directed to make, you experience the scenery that could be viewed from a painting, and you are the one who experiences the music that is created for the game. All these types of art are brought together to make an experience that, if done correctly, can last with people forever.

Sweaty hands maneuver sticky joysticks, hammer away at keyboards and eyes stay glued to bright monitors. Hours pass by before they get tired, hungry or thirsty. Nature's call is held back and mothers voices are hushed down. Video game mania has caught the younger generation like a fish in a barrel. Youngsters play vividly imaginative games, jumping roofs and beating the bad guys all day long, and yet do not step outside to walk on the same ground that they have been imagining through their games.
The rise of computer games has seen a generation riddled with health problems like obesity, sleeping disorders, visual impairment and back problems from a young age. These youngsters get little physical activity, lesser sleep and are exposed to high levels of mental activity and sometimes stress. The problems ripple over each other to become more serious in the long run. It is up to parents to instill in their children a fondness for traditional games. Going out into the sunlight and running, jumping and rolling around. In their formative years, it is important for children to get plenty of exercise so that their musculature is better developed. Sedentary habits from a very young age can lead to a host of problems on growing older. There is also the problem that computer games are extremely addictive and can lead to dropping grades, lack of social ability and a general indifference to everyday activity. Many parents complain that their children don't do anything but play computer games, not even spend time with the family. It happens often that a child puts off his/her meal until they are done playing the game by which the food has gone cold and meal time is long over. Traditional games like football, baseball, basketball and most other sports are very good for young children. While video games are not all bad, children fail to moderate the time they spend on these games. Parents try to restrict the children, but most of them are unable to deny their children for a long time. The best bet is to make them love the outdoors more than their indoor fantasy worlds. Try to slowly introduce the concept of physically based games to the children. If they will not step away from their consoles then use the motion sensor based games to introduce them to sports. A gradual interest will build up after which they may prefer the real thing to something virtual. Coax them slowly into reducing video game time. Do not ban it outright, but insist firmly upon substitute practices that will slowly push the children towards better games. These games like anything else can be harmful if indulged in too feverishly. It is important to understand that these games are amazing fun for your children, and to explain to them that there are other games that can be fun as well. Being overly strict will most likely result in rebellious behavior that causes more problems than it solves. Buy games online to enjoy the games at lower rates and maximum power. You can even look for darts for sale online to be able to play uninterrupted. Gaming is an attractive and exciting pastime for children, but it is harmful to children since it poses dangers of addiction, low academic performance and lifestyle disease. Contemporary society is replete with multifarious activities that children can engage in during leisure. To parents, gaming is important because it preoccupies the minds of children, and keeps them away from trouble. It is common, therefore, for parents to buy various types of games for their children to play. In fact, other toys are losing relevance, as young children embrace more exciting activities. However, it is crucial for parents to critically analyze and review the significance of these games in the lives of their children, vis-à-vis other recreational activities like sports.
To begin with, video games and other types of games played by children are addictive and harmful to children. Young people can become so dependent that they cannot resist the allure of games. The problem with addiction is that it dominates the mind and negates other useful activities. Children addicted to gaming lose interest in personal responsibilities like hygiene. They are also less willing to help their parents with household chores, owing to the compulsive behavior. Eventually, they become robot-like, with their minds being preoccupied by the games they are attracted to. Closely related to addiction is poor academic performance - another harmful effect of gaming. This activity takes away the time the child should spend in study. Many children prefer to play instead of doing their homework. Some even hide favorite games, and play while in bed. It is also common to find games in children's bags in school. In addition, such children lose focus during lessons as they think about their favorite games. They cannot wait for the day to end, for them to rush elsewhere and continue with the activity. In the midst of all this, the child's performance suffers. Finally, since children play games indoors, they remain in a sedentary state most of the time, thus becoming vulnerable to lifestyle complications like obesity and diabetes. The body lacks exercise, compared to a child involved in physical sports outside the house. Moreover, such children tend to eat a lot of junk food, thus aggravating illnesses such as hypertension. Lack of clean air inside the house and the neglect of fresh foods such as fruits and vegetables, also contribute to the lateral expansion of the body. In essence, gaming is exciting, but its harmful effects far outweigh its benefits to children. |
